The term can also refer to the level of study, which these students are undergoing and which takes three to four years to be accomplished depending on the country and the system of education.

    Undergraduate programs allow for courses that offer students a basic understanding of an academic discipline with the option to declare a major in a particular area of interest. Students who have chosen their major after four years of college education may go to work or further their education by enrolling in a graduate school or college for a master’s degree or a doctorate degree.
